WE ARE NOT Psychologists or Therapy Professionals, all data and information on these blogs is for informational purposes ONLY.<\/p>\n<p>All CSC institutions offer basic literacy education, high school education, and vocational or work focused training.  Inmates can access post-secondary education (i.e. college and university), if they qualify.<\/p>\n<p>If an inmate does not have their high school diploma (or adult equivalent) they will be recommended and required to complete the Adult Basic Education Program. &#8220;Education will be listed as a program requirement in his\/her correctional plan.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Adult Education Centre is responsible for providing Academic Programs and Vocational Training Programs to the offenders.<\/p>\n<p>Adult Basic Education utilizes an individualized education plan (IEP) for their adult learners which is based on academic skills rather than on grade levels with a view to preparing these students for success in today\u2019s world.<\/p>\n<p>Students will be assigned to one of the following programs:<br \/>\nAdult Basic Education 1 Grade 0 to 5<br \/>\nAdult Basic Education 2 Grade 6 to 8<br \/>\nAdult Basic Education 3 Grade 9 to 10<br \/>\nAdult Basic Education 4 Grade 11 to 12<\/p>\n<p>ABE 1 \u2013 Students at the ABE 1 level focus on the core subjects: English and Mathematics. In ABE 1 students are encouraged to think of themselves as lifelong learners and are shown how to use their prior knowledge when encountering academic challenges. The goal of ABE 1 is to provide students practical skills to use upon their release and to prepare them for future studies.<br \/>\nABE 2 \u2013 Students at the ABE 2 level focus on the core subjects: English, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. The goal is to provide students practical skills to use upon release and to prepare them for studies at the high school level.<br \/>\nABE 3 \u2013 Offers the basic goal of improving adult literacy and math skills to take high school equivalency level courses and generally prepares students for Secondary School Diploma graduation requirements.<br \/>\nABE 4 \u2013 In order to receive a Secondary School Diploma, students need to complete high school credit courses in the following core subject areas: Mathematics, English, Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies. In support of working towards completion of either a diploma or certificate, a range of additional high school credit courses are available.<\/p>\n<p>College &amp; University \u2013 College and University courses and bursaries are offered to all Federal inmates who meets the criteria for them. For information on these courses the inmate must submit a request to the Education Department withing their institution or speak with the Guidance Counselor on the specifics of their interest.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Correctional Services of Canada has a robust educational program for inmates.
